If you ship dangerous goods by Ground and Air then this course is for you. The IATA/49 CFR online training course is for shippers who prepare ground and air shipments- for road transport using the 49 CFR, for air transport using the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations. In the United States, you must comply with the US Department of Transportation’s Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49 or 49 CFR. This interactive online course meets the minimum training requirements specified in the 49 CFR for employees shipping and handling hazardous materials.

This course takes approximately 15-20 hours to complete and will cover:

Module 1

  • A general awareness of hazardous materials
  • What hazardous materials are and how they are classified
  • What training is required and why
  • Responsibilities of those shipping hazardous materials
  • Safety and security awareness and emergency response guide
  • Module 2

  • Detailed classification and identification of dangerous goods
  • Using the Dangerous Goods List (Table 4.2)
  • Selecting the proper shipping name
  • Limited and excepted quantities of dangerous goods
  • Package selection using the Packing Instructions and package test requirements
  • Proper marking and labelling of dangerous goods packages and overpacks
  • Preparing the Shippers Declaration
  • Carrier/operator acceptance procedures
  • State/operator variations
  • Module 3

  • Using the Hazardous Materials Table (HMT)
  • DOT marking and labeling requirements
  • Preparing shipping papers
  • Bulk and non-bulk package selection
  • Placarding requirements and highway carrier loading best practices
  • You will experience:

    • A fully interactive environment, with built-in learning checks and an assessment following each module.
    • A convenient online platform, allowing you to stop at any point and return later to where you left off.
    • Easy record-keeping and a certificate of completion, which is valid for three years from the date you successfully complete the course for the 49 CFR and two years for IATA. The certificate will be saved in your online account and can be e-mailed, downloaded or printed.
    • Access to the course for a ninety-day period (3 months) to complete your training

    Students MUST have copies of the most current editions of the IATA DGR and the 49 CFR part 100-185 in order to complete this course. You can purchase these publications HERE.

    It is the employer’s responsibility to ensure that their employees training commensurate with their responsibilities and they may need additional training.

    You will receive your access link along with your log-in credentials within approximately 2 hours of your purchase during business hours.
