If you ship dangerous goods by Ground, Air and Ocean, then this course is for you. The IATA/49 CFR/IMDG online training course is for shippers who prepare ground, air and ocean shipments - for road transport using the 49 CFR, for air transport using the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations and for transport by vessel using the IMDG Code. In the United States, you must comply with the US Department of Transportation’s Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49 or 49 CFR. This interactive online course meets the minimum training requirements specified in the 49 CFR for employees shipping and handling hazardous materials.

This course takes approximately 20-25 hours to complete and will cover:

Module 1: General Awareness, Safety and Security Awareness

  • A general awareness of hazardous materials
  • What hazardous materials are and how they are classified
  • What training is required and why
  • Responsibilities of those shipping hazardous materials
  • Safety and security awareness and emergency response guide
  • Module 2: IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations

  • Detailed classification and identification of dangerous goods
  • Using the Dangerous Goods List (Table 4.2)
  • Selecting the proper shipping name
  • Limited and excepted quantities of dangerous goods
  • Package selection using the Packing Instructions and package test requirements
  • Proper marking and labelling of dangerous goods packages and overpacks
  • Preparing the Shippers Declaration
  • Carrier/operator acceptance procedures
  • State/operator variations
  • Module 3: 49 CFR Parts 100-185

  • Using the Hazardous Materials Table (HMT)
  • DOT marking and labeling requirements
  • Preparing shipping papers
  • Bulk and non-bulk package selection
  • Placarding requirements and highway carrier loading best practices
  • Module 4: International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code
